Burgh Castle

We went to see both Caister Castle and Burgh Castle.  These were Roman camps, one on each side of the Yare estuary.  We tried to imagine what it was like 2000 years ago when Great Yarmouth was just a sand bank and the sea came all the way in to Breydon Water.  We thought about how the Roman British had the camps to guard against invasion and to stop the English immigrants and asylum seekers.  We had a good talk about how we were all a mixture of the different peoples and races who had come to these islands over the centuries.

We were amazed at how much of the camp wall was still standing after nearly 2000 years!
