On a very wet day we went to Castle Rising. In the minibus along the way we talked about dysfunctional families and the young people decided the Plantagenets were worse than any examples nowadays. Isabella was only 12 when she was sent to be the wife of king Edward. Her first shock was to find that all the jewels and clothes her father the King of France had sent for her to wear had been given to the King's boyfriend! He was called Piers. Anyway after 17 years of trying to make the marriage work she got herself a boyfriend called Roger. They then killed Piers and locked Edward up in a dungeon where he met a very nasty end on a red hot poker. When Isabella and Edward's son grew up he killed Roger and locked his mum up for the rest of her life in Castle Rising - which she is said to still haunt.
Armed with this information the young people were keen to do some ghost hunting. Jake lost no time in asking Melanie the castle caretaker if she had ever seen the She-Wolf. She said she tried not to think about it especially when she went in to the castle at dusk to lower the flag.
This castle was really impressive and we decided we will definitely come back on a dry day to explore the grounds as well as the Keep.
