Respect4us Prince’s Trust Health & Safety DVD
The Prince’s Trust group decided to do a H&S DVD after a discussion about their next project. It came about through conversation about some of the things they have done and how easily things could have gone badly wrong. They all agreed that it should be aimed at primary school children as most of the things they planned to put in it were from that age.
They planned each scene using a story board, acted out different scenes and decided which ones worked. We had lots of scenes that we didn’t use such as one where no one wears a seatbelt on the minibus which of course crashes and then catches fire. This was after a visit to Sprowston Fire station where they saw all the rescue equipment. They had a lot of fun with the drama but in the end they decided to focus on everyday things that happen at home and in parks when playing. They all had a role to play and took responsibility for making sure things happened.
They had a term to complete the dvd. Once it had been filmed and edited (with some special effects added by Tom Cowles a student at Norwich Art School) they agreed to show it to a local primary school.
We contacted Catton Grove Primary and they were happy for some of the group to come in and show their film.
On the day the Reece Dowson went onto the school to meet 59 year 5 students.
They watched the film and told him what they thought afterwards, some of the comments were:

“It teaches me not to play with fire.
